An important and often overlooked aspect of infection control is wound management.   It has not always been recognized that the quality of wound closure and the dressings applied after surgery can have a profound impact on wound healing. I have brought new technologies in wound closure such as barbed sutures and also novel wound bandages with the purpose of minimizing infection risk for my patients.  These advancements have helped reduce hospital discharge and speed recovery, contributing to successful outpatient joint replacement.  I have published on these techniques, and continue to speak at state and national meetings in wound management optimization.
